We stayed for 3 nights at Hacienda Baru, in a lovely cabin, with gorgeous planting outside. (There are plenty of orchids and tropical plantings in the main grounds)…
The trails are amazing and we saw so much: Capuchins, Coati Mundi, Peccaries, Agouti, so many birds including Aracari’s and Toucans. But the absolute best were the three toed sloths – one treated us to a rare view of it leaving the tree for a comfort break, almost as though it wanted us to watch its back – what a privilege…
The swimming pool is lovely and you can see the Aracaris from it.
The gift shop is also reasonably priced and we got our best souvenirs here – we only saw the beautiful decorated wooden spoons here…
We would definitely return here – it is wonderful. A treat!

We spent 3 nights at Baru lodge. We had a cabin with 3 bedrooms and a small kitchen. Each room had a high powered fan facing the bed to keep cool on the hot humid nights. The kitchen has a full size fridge with a double burner hot plate, it was perfect for cooking our own meals. The pool was very inviting and very large. We used it often on every very hot day. The restaurant offered great meals as we found out on our last day. We enjoyed the trails available to explore, we saw lots of birds, reptiles, insects and a wild pig. So much more to do at the lodge but we were still getting adjusted to the hot temperatures since we came from Canada’s -40C temps.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hacienda Baru for two nights Sept. 7-9 2017 and had a great stay. The rooms were spacious and ours was by the swimming pool which was very nice. Room had a icebox which we kept water and fruit in. The meals at the restaurant were very good and all the employees were very friendly and courteous. The hotel grounds were loaded with birds with the Cherries tanager being the most abundant bird. Sloth was in tree behind our cabana during our stay. We booked a 3-4 hour tour for birding on the property with a young guide named Daber and he was really good. We saw lots of birds as well as 40-50 coatis, tamandua, sloths, etc. We birded for close to 5 hours and still didn’t see all the property. We saw lots of life birds on tour and Daber digiscoped every bird for us using my girlfriends cell phone. Awesome pictures he took. The Pacific Ocean was a short 10 minute walk from the hotel. It is a wild looking beach and the waves were large and a very strong current. Beach was completely deserted when my girlfriend and I walked to it. Hacienda Baru is a place I would love to visit again. The amount of wildlife present is impressive.
